With fall just around the corner, the colder nights and cooler water temperatures will definitely help our angling success.  We are already seeing this action on the lower sections of the Henry’s Fork, as moss is retreating and the fish eating! Anglers are still fishing with flying ant patterns and hoppers, but are now seeing more success with the trico hatches and spinner falls. Last week’s rain also helped the water level and temperature as far as fishing is concerned. We’ve had reports of clients already catching brown trout that are beautifully colored-up and beginning their spawning routine.  Look forward very soon to sight fishing the reds and tossing egg patterns and streamers!
Water management has again dropped the water coming out of Palisades Reservoir a few days ago. The South Fork of the Snake is below 7,000 cfs and winter flows will steadily decrease over the next few weeks. The PMD’s are beginning to retreat, however, the nymph dropper fishing is becoming a more successful tactic.  In addition, many reports of excellent streamer fishing are coming in from most sections of the South Fork, so don’t forget your entire fly box when fishing during the weeks to come.
